The Hypermotard has always made its point with posture. Tall bars, a narrow waist and a front end that seems to ask for one more turn give the bike a shape that belongs to movement. Ducati has brought the next version to India with a new 890 cc V2 engine, priced at ₹16.53 lakh for the standard motorcycle and ₹20.78 lakh for the V2 SP.

A new engine gives the name its next voice

The 90 degree Ducati V2 makes 118 bhp and 94 Nm. It drives through a six speed gearbox with Ducati Quick Shift 2.0. Ducati says the engine weighs 54.5 kg, a figure that matters because the motor is part of the motorcycle’s character as much as its output. A lighter twin can help the whole machine feel easier to place and more willing to change direction.

The Hypermotard does not carry its power like a distant number. The engine sits between the rider and the road in a compact package, and its low mass supports the quick response the model is known for. The riding position gives the shoulders room to work and the front wheel a clear presence. It is a motorcycle that invites the rider to use the road rather than watch it pass.

The promise of a lighter engine is felt in the way a motorcycle changes direction. Less mass at the centre can help the whole machine feel easier to place, especially when a corner arrives after a fast straight and the rider has only a moment to choose a line. The V2’s character will still depend on its chassis, suspension and tyres. The engine gives that package a compact starting point and a strong voice.

The SP builds on the same instinct

The V2 SP moves the price upwards with its own equipment and finish. Ducati lists Öhlins suspension, forged aluminium wheels, a lithium ion battery and a steering damper among the model’s specification. The standard V2 offers the same engine foundation and quick shift gearbox, giving buyers a different balance of equipment and cost.

Electronic support is part of the package as well. The model includes cornering ABS, traction control and wheelie control, with riding modes that help the rider choose how the engine and safety systems respond. These systems can make a fast motorcycle more legible at the edge of its performance. They work best when they remain in the background and give the rider room to concentrate on the next corner.

A premium supermoto with a clear purpose

At ₹16.53 lakh, the Hypermotard V2 enters a premium part of the Indian market. Its closest audience is likely to understand why it sits outside the ordinary middleweight formula. The upright riding position changes how a rider looks through a turn. The compact engine gives the bike a different kind of urgency. Its design carries more of a dirt road silhouette than a full fairing sport machine.

The equipment split gives the two versions different personalities. The standard bike keeps the central idea intact, while the SP layers in lighter forged wheels and higher grade suspension. Those parts influence how a rider feels the motorcycle move, especially when direction changes quickly. They also explain why the price gap is substantial. A buyer choosing between them is deciding how much of the V2’s performance character they want to experience through the hardware.

Ducati has put a lighter twin at the centre of a motorcycle that depends on energy and feel. The V2 and V2 SP offer two equipment paths through that idea. The next chapter will be written on city streets, mountain roads and the small moments when a rider turns the bars and feels the motorcycle answer.

That is why the Hypermotard still occupies its own corner of the Ducati range. It offers a more upright view of a road and a more direct relationship with the front wheel than a fully faired sports bike. The new engine lets the model carry that identity forward with a different mechanical heart. Riders who come for the look will find that the appeal has always been in the movement too.
